Denis Thorner
CEO – Thorner Financial Services Ltd

Denis is a certified insurance professional and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance. He has over 50 years’ industry service. Helping others achieve their personal best is what has and continues to drive Denis. He’s a people-person and being available to both clients and staff is an ongoing priority.

Denis recalls the first conference he ever attended, over 40 years ago. The guest speaker said something that really struck a chord with him; “Don’t worry about the dollars, look after the people and the dollars will look after themselves.” He’s always tried to live by that little saying, and it’s something he often shares with his staff as a reminder to put the needs of clients first, every day in all they do. It’s the base line for how clients are treated at Thorners, always as a person; never as a number.

Going the extra mile is an important part of the Thorner philosophy; travelling the miles it takes to retain a client and to provide personal financial advice in whatever shape or form is needed. In Denis’s book it’s called good old- fashioned service, and it’s made up of little but important things, like turning up on time, doing what you say you’re going to do, finishing what you start and always saying please and thank you.

Outside of work, Denis and his partner and business partner of 30 years Pam, have six children and lots of animals to keep them busy. He also enjoys table tennis, gardening and walking.

Maree Hammersley-Myers
Manager

Maree is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance. She manages our fire and general division, drawing upon her 20+ years as a specialist in this area. She’s 100% committed to understanding your insurance needs and to getting you the best solution for your insurance dollar. She’s passionate about the value of good insurance advice so it performs to your expectations at claim time. Maree is a great relationship builder with both our clients and our suppliers, so you can be sure you’re getting the most up-to-date options and advice available.

Outside of work Maree is married to Ross, a self-employed builder. Together they live on a lifestyle block where they enjoy a very active lifestyle. Maree’s also a competitive horse rider. She enjoys quality time with her family and good friends.

Peter West
Manager

Peter is an Authorised Financial Adviser and Director of Thorner Investment Services Ltd. He offers personalised investment advice designed to build on your current financial position and enhance your long-term financial security.  Peter brings fresh clarity to investment solutions so you can make smart decisions with your money, and achieve the goals and dreams that are important to you and to the people you care about most.

After 20+ years of working for large financial service providers, Peter joined Denis Thorner in 2010 and together they established Thorner Investment Services Ltd. Since then Peter has established a successful business using a consultative approach to wealth management.

Peter always begins with an assessment of what’s important to you – your values and goals, and then translates that into a customised plan. You’ll see how your key priorities can be achieved through a disciplined investment process, and how you can continue to make smart decisions in spite of today’s uncertain political, economic and social environments.

Peter is also available to provide an objective second opinion on any current investment strategy you have in place.

Peter is married to Amanda and they have two fantastic daughters together. He is heavily involved in a local college 1st XV and is a self-confessed sports nut.
